CQUni Chiro Clinic Partners with HOHA to offer Healthcare

17/03/2019 by Peter Leman

HOHA are proud to introduce a new partnership with CQUniversity Mackay’s student Chiropractic Clinic to provide chiropractic care to those in need.

“For a couple of hours each Wednesday morning (from 20 March), CQUni’s fifth-year Master of Clinical Chiropractic students will deliver adjustments for the price of only $4 to anyone who needs chiropractic care, but has been unable to afford it previously.

CQUni clinic supervisor Dr Eileen Lai said this partnership was a great way for CQUniversity students to give back to the community, and to gain additional hands-on experience.

“Healthcare is a basic right of life for all people, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to link in with the Australian charity of HoHA, to provide affordable health care for all,” she said.

“This program will also expose our students to a wide range of clients’ needs – they’ll be treating the elderly, the homeless, those who are socially isolated – the list is endless.

“As always, all of our clinic’s student chiropractors will be supervised by CQUniversity’s qualified chiropractors.”

HoHA CEO Franca Smarrelli said CQUni’s student Chiropractic Clinic was one of 11 volunteer community clinics in Australia and four international treatment and training programs.

“Since 1987, our organisation has been delivering quality inter-disciplinary healthcare to the wider Australian community and communities abroad through training, education, research and treatment,” Franca explained.

“Our volunteer practitioners offer chiropractic, osteopathy, massage, myotherapy, naturopathy, herbal medicine, nutrition, counselling and acupuncture. Some clinics also offer optometry, yoga, and legal advice.

“Each year, between 50 000 and 60 000 people are reached, delivering around 10 000 treatments through the collective efforts of up to 500 HoHA volunteers,” Franca said.

Eileen said CQUni Mackay’s chiropractic team welcomed program partnerships that would benefit local communities and beyond.

“Our students have proudly been involved in a few outreach events – last year they provided on-field care at the NQ Games (2018), and they provided chiropractic services and donated clothing and first-aid supplies on a mission trip to Vanuatu,” she said.

“I hope these experiences inspire our students to continue outreach once they have graduated as well.”

The HoHA clinic will be run on Wednesday mornings (starting on 20 March) from 8.30 am to 11.30 am at CQUni Mackay’s student Chiropractic Clinic (building 1) at City Campus in Sydney Street.

To make an appointment phone 4940 3257 (referrals are not required).
